These are brown pre/early war style pouches primarily used by Luftwaffe troops, but can be seen on Heer/SS troops during the pre-war and very early war stages prior to 1939. After a certain point in the war all brown leather was to be darkened and a lot of this was done in the field so it is not uncommon to find original pouches with a black front and brown back.
