WW2 German Dunkelgelb Spray Paint.
This custom WWII German Dunkelgelb spray paint was developed through direct comparison with issued and unissued original examples. By working from our war time gear, the color captures the true intended tone as it would have appeared when first applied during the period.
Dunkelgelb was widely used by the Germans starting in 1943 when it became the standard base coat for all armored vehicles. The first Dunkelgelb or Nach Muster was a lighter yellow and was only used for a very short period of time in 1943. We decided to make the later darker yellow version which was more widely used until the end of the war. In my opinion this color is more like a yellowish/green/grey and teeters between the dunkelgelb and feldgrau color families.
To ensure the most faithful reproduction possible, we examined original items dated between 1943 and 1944 including canteens, mess kits, and some camouflage scheme items. Each piece displayed slight variations in color and sheen.
For this paint, an unissued late war canteen cup and slightly used mess kit were chosen as the primary examples. These provided the most reliable basis for achieving a period-correct color match.
NOTE: The cup in the photo is a reproduction we repainted and is not included.
