Established by the puppet Norwegian Prime Minister Vidkun
Quisling in October 1943 to recognize Norwegian nationals
who had served with the Germans on the eastern front. The
Norwegian’s, being seen as suitably Germanic were originally
recruited into the SS Nordland Regiment and the Norwegian
Legion to serve alongside the Germans in the battle against
Bolshevism. Later Norwegians were recruited into the
5.SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking", the 6.SS-Gebirgs-Division
"Nord" and the 11.SS-Freiwillingen-Panzer-Grenadier-Division
"Nordland".
