The 1939 Wound Badge was instituted by Hitler on
September 1, 1939. It was to recognize and honor the
individuals who risked their lives for the Fatherland. It
was awarded in three classes.
Black - for 1st and 2nd wounds
Silver - for 3rd and 4th wounds
Gold - for 5th or more wounds
