Reproduction German Order. This award was the highest award
that the Nazi Party could bestow on an individual for duties
of the highest order to the state and party. This badge was
designed by Benno von Arent, and was awarded for the first
time posthumously to Reichsminister Fritz Todt at his
funeral in February 1942.
This was dubbed the "dead hero award" because it was almost
always awarded posthumously. The only two persons who
received the German Order who survived the war were
Konstantin Hierl and Arthur Axmann.
There were only 11 of these awarded between 1942 and 1945,
the recipients were Fritz Todt, Reinhard Heydrich,
Adolf Hühnlein, Viktor Lutze, Adolf Wagner, Josef Bürckel,
Rudolf Schmundt, Konstantin Hierl, Karl Hanke, Karl Holz,
Artur Axmann.
